Benefits of eco-industrial parks


International experience of UNIDO in the opinion that EIP can contribute to the sustainable economic development of developing countries. The types of economic, ecological standards and social benefits of EIP differ in each individual case, protecting always go beyond the framework of successful stories.

  • Economic benefits of EIP include job creation through eco-innovation and industrial collaboration. Business competition in the market contributes to the development of EIP, as participating companies can take advantage of the direct benefits of EIP, namely in the areas of resource efficiency, waste disposal, added value, risk reduction, leading to cost savings and increased competitiveness. The advantages also include an increase in direct financial investments. The indirect benefits of EIP are more difficult to calculate, but they are very important for the long-term economic stability of the park. These include job creation through increased skills and competences of workers, technology transfer, improved reputation and competitiveness, and they can serve as role models for others as a result of implementing best available practices.
  • The Environmental benefits of EIP are very diverse and include the reduction of pollution and gas emissions through the rational use of resources and efficient waste management based on the principles of the circular economy. In addition, proper management of chemicals and hazardous substances in PPE can bring additional environmental benefits and improve occupational safety.
  • Social benefits of EIP include job creation and improved working conditions. EIP also contributes to raising the standard of living of residents of local communities by solving a number of gender issues, implementing security and surveillance systems, and creating social infrastructure, including training centers.
