UNIDO used its EIP tools for evaluation of industrial parks to identify the parks with higher potential of becoming an EIP with the technical support of the Project. The Prioritization of pre-selected industrial parks was based on a set of qualitative criteria covering different aspects including park management, environmental, economic, and social aspects, replicability, and visibility.

Questions and Answers

An Eco-Industrial Park is a community of businesses located on a common property in which businesses seek to achieve enhanced environmental, economic, and social performance through collaboration in managing environmental and resource issues.

Industrial symbiosis is a form of brokering to bring companies together in innovative collaborations, finding ways to use the waste from one as raw materials for another. It’s peculiar for Eco-Industrial Parks.

Although many Eco-Industrial Parks have industrial symbiosis implemented, it’s still not the basis for EIP. The basis for EIP is proper management, zoning, and cooperation among tenant companies.

EIP is a more advanced version of IP that besides economic benefits results in environmental and social ones, promoting sustainable development.
