Eco-Industrial Parks Programme II - Ukraine Country Level intervention

Ukraine National Standard for Eco-Industrial Parks Entered into Force

Ukraine has become the first country in Europe and the second in the world to adopt a National Standard for Eco-Industrial Parks (EIPs). As of September 1, 2025, the Standard has officially come into force.

The new Standard establishes a unified framework to guide industrial parks towards greener and more resource-efficient practices, paving the way for sustainable, competitive industrial development and clean production in Ukraine.

It introduces a rating system to assess management efficiency, process sustainability, and environmental performance, with levels of compliance designated as “gold”, “silver”, or “bronze.” The Standard defines clear criteria for transforming traditional industrial parks into modern eco-industrial ones, contributing to:

  • Resource efficient, clean, and environmentally responsible production
  • Economic growth of both local communities and the country as a whole
  • Reduction of waste and CO₂ emissions
  • Creation of industrial symbiosis among enterprises
  • Enhanced investment attractiveness and innovation
  • Labor market development

In addition, the compliance with the Standard’s criteria will enable Ukrainian businesses to expand their trade relations in global markets.

The National Standard has been developed with the active support of the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine, within the framework of the second phase of the Global Eco-Industrial Parks Programme (GEIPP-II Ukraine), implemented by UNIDO with funding from the Government of Switzerland through the State Secretariat of Economic Affairs (SECO).
