Global Eco-Industrial Parks Programme - Ukraine: Country Level Intervention

Workshop “Eco-industrial parks as an advanced version of traditional industrial parks”

“Eco-industrial parks and industrial parks are the tools for saving industry now and fostering its development in the future”, said the national coordinator of the GEIPP-Ukraine project, Mr Anton Kleshchov, at a worhshop dedicated to the development of eco-industrial parks, which took place in Uzhhorod National University on July 29, 2022. “Eco-industrial parks are not just about solar panels or wind energy. They are rather about saving resources, attracting investments, creating new quality jobs and economic growth,” he added.

The event was attended by representatives of industrial parks, as well as, local and relocated businesses, and local authorities, who demonstrated their interest in the topic and confirmed their readiness to cooperate for the creation of new parks according to the model of eco-industrial parks. Also, they are eager to transform existing parks according to the model`s requirements. Ms Yuliya Skubak, Director of the Department of Investments of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine opened the event and once again assured the Ministry’s support for the development of eco-industrial parks at the legislative level. Mr Valery Kyrylko and Mr Serhiy Fedoryk, representatives of the KEY Group company, focused in detail on the advantages of eco-industrial parks compared to traditional parks in their speeches, especially on their economic, ecological and social benefits.

The theory was supported by best practices from different parts of the world, such as South Korea, Japan, Austria and Turkey. Those cases were carefully compared with the Ukrainian context.
The event was held as part of the GEIPP-Ukraine project. The organizer of the event is the KEY Group engineering project management company.

We are very grateful to the participants of the GEIPP-Ukraine project meetings.
