Eco-Industrial Parks Programme II - Ukraine Country Level intervention

Practical training workshop “Planning and Designing New Eco-Industrial Parks in Ukraine”

On 13-16 July 2026, a four-day interactive practical training entitled “Planning and Designing New Eco-Industrial Parks in Ukraine” was conducted in Lviv. The event brought together representatives of industrial park initiators and management companies, development agencies, as well as national service providers working in the planning, development and operation of industrial parks. The training aimed to strengthen practical competencies in planning and designing new eco-industrial parks in Ukraine that are competitive, demand-driven and resilient to risks.

The following key topics were covered during the training:

  • Site selection for new eco-industrial parks, including an analysis of the preconditions for establishing a park, baseline information on potential industrial sites and the minimum criteria for their assessment.
  • Industrial park concept planning, taking into account the park’s current and future status, land-use implications, the interest of potential resident companies, opportunities to attract anchor tenants and the development of industrial synergies.
  • Review and improvement of industrial park master plans in line with the International Framework for Eco-Industrial Parks.
  • Feasibility assessment for the establishment and development of new eco-industrial parks, including market demand forecasting, the analysis of risks and opportunities, and the assessment of infrastructure and investment needs.
  • Identification and analysis of potential financing options for industrial park development projects.
  • Identification, prioritisation and planning of value-added services that may be provided by industrial park management companies.

During the practical sessions, participants applied UNIDO tools for site selection, EIP concept planning, master plan review, access to finance and EIP management services. The exercises were based on data and materials from the participating industrial parks, allowing the training approaches to be linked directly to their practical needs.

As a result of the training, participants strengthened their practical skills in planning and designing new eco-industrial parks. The respective parks will therefore be able to identify priority measures for site selection and assessment, improve their concept and master plans, assess the feasibility of specific projects, attract financing and develop value-added services.
